Mike Davis

Mike Davis uses traditional techniques such as acid etching, sandblasting, painting, staining and enamelling, when making his glass pieces. He uses leaded, hot worked and kiln worked glass. The resultant panels are designed to utilise natural light to highlight the colours he has created within them.

Mike’s major commissions to date include the creation of an entrance screen for Greatham Hospital, Cleveland; windows for Doxford Business Park, Sunderland and entrance screens for Kendal Magistrates Court, Cumbria and Westmorland General Hospital, Kendal (in collaboration with Cate Watkinson). Also in collaboration with Cate Watkinson, he created Sea Piece for Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Outpatients’ Department, Gateshead. Mike and Cate used leaded glass sections to recreate the movements, textures and colours of the ocean in this important artwork, designed to both relax and inspire the hospital’s patients.

Often inspired by music, Mike Davis is also inspired by gardens, landscapes and seascapes.

Our Autumn Show continues at our Hexham Gallery. Artists featured are Lisa Delarny, Billy Childish, Chris Jones and Alexander Shibniov.
