Manchester-based Tracey Birchwood has been producing her handmade jewellery for over a decade, since graduating from Brighton University.

‘Since I was a child, I have always been into making things; I would spend hours designing and making my own clothes,’ Tracey says. ‘When I applied to university, I wanted to have a go at several disciplines, so I chose a course that offered lots of different mediums.’ Tracey studied 3-D design at university, majoring in ceramics. ‘Most of my degree show featured vases, decanters, goblets and perfume bottles, all intricately embellished with textures,’ she says.

This love of embellishment manifests itself in Tracey’s sparingly decorated jewellery now. Surface decoration is precisely applied, creating clean lines and classic pieces which complement, jeans, skirt suits and evening dresses equally. Tracey’s earrings and necklaces combine silver or copper wire with richly coloured porcelain. Glittering threads often supply a textural contrast to the smooth porcelain.

Tracey Birchwood’s versatile and yet individual pieces make excellent presents for discerning jewellery lovers.
