Jenny Holm
30.00 x 30.00

Limited Edition Giclee Print 2/100

Jenny Holm is based in Newcastle upon Tyne. After studying graphic design at the University of Northumbria, and later completing postgraduate studies in Art and Design at Leeds, Jenny moved to the South of France. The landscapes there, together with the special quality of the light, had a lasting effect on her development as a painter.

The majority of Jenny Holm’s paintings inhabit the magical worlds of fairytale and myth. There is often a menacing subtext to these outwardly charming images, recalling the beastliness of Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast, rather than the sweetness of parts of the Cinderella story. The narrative content of the stories within the paintings is suggested rather than spelled out, which makes the works intriguing, inviting a very individual response. The commanding human and animal figures are distinctively drawn and compelling. The sometimes uneasy, sometimes affectionate, relationships between humans and animals often feature in her work.

As Jenny says, ‘I am interested in exploring the nature of relationships between people and also between people and animals, and how this affects the way they perceive their place in the world’. Jenny also says that while some of her work is autobiographically inspired, other paintings have resulted from books she read as a child.

Jenny Holm’s widely acclaimed paintings have enjoyed solo exhibitions in the North East and have formed part of group exhibitions internationally and all over the UK.
