Andrew Hall has had a passion for working with wood for his whole life. Born in 1961, his career in woodworking began when he served a five year apprenticeship with Blue Circle Industries at Weardale. He still lives in Weardale.

Andrew was mentored at school by an excellent woodwork teacher, who spent a great deal of time with Andrew and other keen students, educating them in woodworking, furniture making and woodturning. At the age of 22, Andrew was lecturing at three colleges in the North East of England.

After teaching apprentices carpentry and joinery for 20 years, Andrew returned to his love of woodturning and has been turning professionally since, specialising in making wood hats, some miniature, some life-sized, from sycamore, oak, beech and ash. He also turns conventional bowls, vessels and spindles.

Andrew is the founder and chairman of the Wear Valley Woodturners, writes articles for several woodworking and woodturning related magazines and often demonstrates his skills to groups.

Balman Gallery now operates primarily as a web based site. We are grateful, however, to have some work on display at the Hancock Gallery in Newcastle. See their website for more details of their current exhibitions or contact us for details of our current work on display there. www.hancockgallery.co.uk
